I've also heard that it's related to serotonin, that like jiggling your leg (which I do a lot too) it helps release serotonin.S.P. What...Thank you Susan, and you're very welcome. What you describe is mind mapping in its natural form. The reason why mind mapping is effective is because we are pre-designed to work and think that way. Have you wondered why we doodle? The mind is trying to find a way to express something. Doodling/mind mapping is a natural way of extracting those hidden ideas. Thanks again!Ara Grigorianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18400259942581950319noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8815055211258096902.post-61359139026316625122011-05-19T17:08:05.808-07:002011-05-19T17:08:05.808-07:00Great post! I was telling a writer friend how I hate to write by longhand because my handwriting is so terrible and then I have to do the work of transcribing it. There's one exception to this rule for me, and it's in the initial stages when I'm generating all the new ideas and anytime in between when I'm charting out or crafting new characters, worldbuilding, plot, etc. And I write this stuff in a very visual way, much like what you're showing above. I guess I was intuitively brainstorming with a mind map technique, and it felt better for me in longhand.

Thanks for the insight!S.P.
